Crafting For A Cause

Everyone I believe has a bit of charitable impulse in them. If you love to craft and want to find a creative way to give back, why not organize an event to make handmade goods to support those less fortunate than ourselves. The event can be as simple or as extravagant as you wish and could raise anywhere from $300 – $10,000. Simple ideas can include a card-making night with close friends, charm bracelet making with kids, T-shirt decorating and if some of you may recall my entry on making love-boxes for kids less fortunate -that’s a good one too. More extravagant ideas could include hosting a large bake sale, hosting an auction for handmade fine jewelry and perhaps even organizing A Craft-A-Thon to see how many goods you can make within 24 hours.

The possibilities are endless. There are a ton of organizations that could use your help. Find a worthy cause in your local community that you want to support and get your crafty friends together to make what they make best!

Here are some great team-ups and ideas that I feel so inspired by:

1. Bowls For Beds aims to raise 10K through a soup tasting event and the auctioning of hand drawn/ painted soup bowls from local celebrities.

2. Martha Stewart  featured a Summer Postcard by one of my favorite illustrators, Erin Jang. If you are a great illustrator, why not create your own for a worthy cause!

3. J.Crew teamed up with Indego-Africa to create a wrap style printed bracelet to help women in Rwanda by providing training and encouragement to those who need it.

4. Proceeds for these great handmade dolls by Semi Custom Doll – Big will benefit Doctors Without Borders.
