A Few Words on Calligraphy & Penmanship

Calligraphy and penmanship are two words that I seldom hear people use or care much about nowadays. In this digital world where literally any font can be created on a computer, calligraphy has become a little bit of a forgotten art and the art of penmanship has become a waste of time to many, especially to the younger generation. I certainly remember spending hours having lots of fun with the calligraphic pen that my mom got me when I was little, and my school actually taught penmanship! There are many different types of calligraphy – Western (where, not limited to, a round nipped pen or a dip pen and water based ink are used), Chinese (where Chinese ink and an ink brush are used), Southeast Asian, Islamic, etc. Below are some beautiful samples of the art in its Western form.
